Buddy Runner – Best Android Running App

I’m proud to announce that Buddy Runner was released!

Instead of investing in expensive sport watches, you can turn your mobile phone (currently Google Android) to one. Buddy Runner allows you to track your workout, while clearly providing statistical info and real-time voice feedback during the workout.
Go ahead and check my dashboard at http://www.buddyrunner.com/yossi.pik

Yep, this is what kept me busy in the last weeks and probably will keep me busy going forward as now there are real users (500 downloads in the first 12 hours) with feature requests and bugs to fix (not much).

So, if you have a G1 phone, go to Android Market and get yourself a buddy to run with.

keep following me at http://www.buddyrunner.com/yossi.pik

Way to go!
The dashboard UI looks good...

Btw, you should modify the alternative flash text (for people who don't have Flash, like me up to 5 minutes ago). It currently says "Alternative text goes here."

Looks good.

What about other activities such as biking?

Yossi Pik said...

@Eran, thanks. will be fixed.

@Uri, buddy for biking is also planned.

This might get me:
1. A New gadget - G1
2. A reason to start running
:-)
BTW, are you testing it on a real G1?
How is the Android SDK so far?

Good luck!

Yossi Pik said...

Yep. I'm using a real Android phone.
The SDK is very good, especially the emulator that speeds up the development. Give it a try. I would be happy to help.

If you need any Beta site- I am it. I am currently training for the TLV marathon...
(Don't have an Android phone though :)

Or, good luck with the next Marathon. I wonder if my body is ready for such a challenge

Do you know if Buddy Runner still works even after you lock your phone?

Yossi Pik said...

During workout, Buddy Runner keeps running in the background and tracks your workout even if the phone is locked.
When there is no workout in progress, Buddy Runner does not work when the phone is locked to save battery.

..never tried buddy runner...using another app called CardioTrainer that works really well! Heard the gps feature works better with CardioTrainer

Looks great. I have downloaded your software but can't figure how to get to my dashboard. Am I missing something?

Hi there - I do like this app although the GPS doesn't seem to work as well as MyTracks and it 'drops' the signal more often on the same walk. But I love the calorie counter. Can you tell me what formula you use for taking account of calories and elevation? I presume that it does take account of elevation and weight and calculates calories accordingly?

Hi!
App looks promising. Does anyone have any recommendations on G1 running accessories like an arm band for running (how else might you carry it) bluetooth headphones, etc.

For some reason I can't find it in the Android Market. I searched and I also used the QR code. Has it been removed?

Love the Buddy Runner so far! I have the Motorola Droid through Verizon.. I was trying to access the website my phone, but it said I didn't have the right version of flash.. think there will be a fix for that? Or maybe an update to the app to shows the charts? That would be nice because that is the best part! Seeing your charts!
